Moroccan Activists Held After Gaza-Bound “Resilience Flotilla” Intercepted

    ayaMay 19, 2026

The interception of several vessels belonging to the “Global Resilience Flotilla” heading toward غزة has sparked widespread reactions after reports circulated about the detention of several Moroccan and international activists, including Tangier-based doctor and environmental activist Chaymaa Drazai, during a solidarity mission aimed at calling for an end to the blockade on Gaza and delivering symbolic humanitarian aid to residents of the territory.

According to available information, Chaymaa Drazai was part of the Moroccan delegation participating in the international maritime initiative alongside several Moroccan and foreign activists, before some of the participating vessels were intercepted while sailing in international waters, leading to the detention of a number of people on board, according to information shared by supporters of the initiative.

The names of several Moroccan participants reported to have been detained include Chaymaa Drazai, Saadia El Oulous, Ismail El Ghazaoui, Mahmoud El Hamdaoui, Mustapha El Moussafer, Ayoub Ibn El Fassih, and Mohammed Yassine Benjelloun, in addition to other participants involved in the international solidarity movement supporting Gaza.

The “Global Resilience Flotilla” includes activists and supporters from several countries as part of an international maritime initiative calling for an end to the blockade imposed on Gaza and drawing attention to the humanitarian conditions faced by residents of the territory.

The incident has prompted significant reactions among civil society and human rights circles, with growing calls to ensure the safety of the detained participants and work toward their release.
