Royal Air Maroc is considering closing some air routes due to the sharp increase in kerosene prices, according to an informed source, a move that could mainly affect newly launched or planned routes.
The source stated that the measure may target low-profit routes and could extend to additional suspensions beyond the currently halted routes linking Morocco with Dubai and Doha, amid a global trend of airlines seeking to reduce fuel consumption.
Kerosene prices have reached high levels, with media reports indicating an increase of more than 100 percent compared to pre-war levels before the US-Israel conflict with Iran, reaching around 1,838 dollars per ton in early April versus 831 dollars previously.
Royal Air Maroc may implement measures to optimize fuel use, including reallocating aircraft to more profitable routes or suspending certain operations, although no specific routes have been identified.
In this context, some international airlines may also reduce flights to Morocco, while global warnings تشير to potential fuel supply disruptions that could impact air transport.
Lufthansa has also announced plans to cancel approximately 20,000 flights by autumn in order to save fuel.
