The British government has reaffirmed its support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, considering it a realistic and viable basis for reaching a lasting solution to the Sahara dispute.
This position was expressed during a session at the House of Commons, where Hamish Falconer, Minister responsible for the Middle East and North Africa at the UK Foreign Office, stated that the United Kingdom hopes to achieve a permanent resolution to the conflict, emphasizing that its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan is based on its credibility, practicality, and feasibility.
The British official also noted that this stance aligns with the United Kingdom’s welcome of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, within the framework of international efforts to resolve the issue.
This renewed position comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts surrounding the Sahara issue under the auspices of the United Nations.
