Police services in Tangier arrested a 27-year-old Swedish national on Monday, March 30, who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Swedish judicial authorities, on suspicion of involvement in international drug trafficking and attempted extortion.
The suspect was apprehended at Ibn Battouta Airport in Tangier, where a background check through Interpol’s database revealed that he was wanted internationally under a red notice issued at the request of the National Central Bureau in Stockholm, in connection with a case involving attempted extortion and international trafficking of synthetic drugs and cannabis resin.
A search operation led to the seizure of a quantity of cannabis resin found in the suspect’s possession, after which he was placed in police custody pending a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to determine all the circumstances of the case.
In parallel, extradition procedures were initiated, and the National Central Bureau in Rabat, was tasked with notifying its Swedish counterpart of the arrest, in line with applicable legal procedures.
This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by Moroccan security services to strengthen international cooperation and pursue individuals wanted at the international level in criminal cases.
