The General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party has announced its official adoption of a call to abolish the additional time system and return to Morocco’s standard legal time, following a regular meeting chaired by Abdelilah Benkirane.
According to a party statement, this move comes amid renewed public debate on the issue, particularly during the temporary back to GMT time during Ramadan, a period that reportedly sees greater public comfort.
The party stated that maintaining the additional hour affects daily life, including productivity, time management, and the balance between professional and family commitments.
It also referred to biological and psychological disturbances, as well as disruptions in scheduling, including prayer times and school hours, arguing that these impacts outweigh potential energy-saving benefits.
The statement further recalled remarks made in November 2021 by the government spokesperson, indicating that the issue had been under discussion due to public opposition, especially in winter.
In this context, the party considers that the lack of change reflects a delay in responding to public demands, including those expressed through digital petitions.
The General Secretariat concluded by affirming its intention to continue advocating for this demand through available political and institutional channels.
