The debate over school start times in Morocco has resurfaced amid ongoing discussions about the country’s legal time system, after a representative from the General Union of Moroccan Workers submitted a written question to the Ministry of National Education, proposing to delay the start of classes until 9 a.m.
According to available information, this proposal comes in response to increasing complaints from families, particularly in rural areas, where students are required to leave their homes very early, often before sunrise, under cold and dark conditions.
The same source indicated that such circumstances may affect students’ rest and concentration in classrooms, potentially impacting their academic performance.
Concerns were also raised about student safety during early morning commutes, especially in certain areas.
This discussion highlights broader questions about aligning school schedules with social realities and ensuring suitable learning conditions for students.
