The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations, under the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, announced the dismantling of a cell affiliated with ISIS in a joint operation conducted with the General Commissariat for Information of the Spanish National Police.
According to an official statement, the coordinated operation between Morocco and Spain forms part of ongoing security cooperation aimed at countering terrorist threats through intelligence sharing and joint investigations.
Simultaneous field interventions led to the arrest of two suspects in Tangier, while a third individual, described as the alleged leader of the cell, was detained in Mallorca.
Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects arrested in Morocco were involved in providing logistical and financial support to ISIS-linked fighters operating in the Sahel region and Somalia, while the suspect arrested in Spain is believed to have been involved in planning a potential attack using lone-actor tactics.
The suspects in Morocco have been placed in police custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, as investigations continue to determine the full scope and connections of the network.
This operation reflects sustained security cooperation between Morocco and Spain, which has contributed to dismantling multiple extremist cells in recent years.
