    Tangier Fishing Activity Jumps Early 2026 with Notable Growth

    Coastal and artisanal fishing landings at Tangier Port reached 760 tons by the end of February 2026, marking a 29 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the National Fisheries Office.

    The same source reported that the commercial value of these landings stood at approximately 21.05 million dirhams by the end of February, compared to more than 21.02 million dirhams recorded during the same period in 2025.

    Breakdown by category shows that pelagic fish landings declined by 5 percent to 289 tons, while their value increased by 13 percent to around 3.28 million dirhams, compared to about 2.91 million dirhams for 305 tons a year earlier.

    In contrast, white fish landings recorded a significant increase of 210 percent, reaching 320 tons, with a value exceeding 8.78 million dirhams, representing a 44 percent rise compared to approximately 6.08 million dirhams for 103 tons during the same period last year.

    According to the report, mollusk landings decreased by 44 percent to 79 tons, generating revenues of around 5.57 million dirhams, down 42 percent, while crustacean landings increased by 82 percent to 71 tons, with revenues exceeding 3.41 million dirhams, up 39 percent.

    At the national level, the volume of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 55,153 tons by the end of February 2026, reflecting an 18 percent decrease compared to the same period of the previous year, while the total value increased by 3 percent to exceed 2.36 billion dirhams.
